Conservation Optimism Southeast Asia Awards
The EWC Conservation Optimism Southeast Asia Awards will recognize the efforts and achievements of residents of Southeast Asia who made a positive difference to the environment and their communities.
About us!
ASEAN has a population over 622 million people. The region has one of the largest economies in the world, and it is believed that by 2050, it will have the 4th-largest economy in the world. This region indicates the majority of sustainable economic growth in the Asia Pacific Region. According to Think ASIA the youth comprise a major part of the world’s population today, with an approximate total of 1.2 billion. In Southeast Asia, the youth make up the largest population with a total of 213 million and is forecasted to reach 220 million by 2038.
This situation can be considered as both a challenge and an opportunity for the future ASEAN Countries. The challenge can be seen in how climate change and food security will impact us. However this situation should not stop youth in ASEAN countries to take action for our planet because as this quotes from the United Nations “Young people are not only victims of climate change. They are also valuable contributors to climate action. They are agents of change, entrepreneurs and innovators. Whether through education, science or technology, young people are scaling up their efforts and using their skills to accelerate climate action”.
Therefore the idea to introduce the Conservation Optimism Southeast Asia Awards. Conservation Optimism Southeast Asia Awards is an awarding program in environmental projects, this program is intended for founders and the changemakers in addressing climate change and environmental issues in the Southeast Asia region. This platform also helped their project in a highly wider range and motivated SEA’s youth to be more eager in combating climate change and environmental issues, including food security.
Conservation Optimism together with East-West Center agreed that a recognition for youth positive actions is needed. Conservation Optimism is a global community dedicated to inspiring and empowering people around the world to make a positive difference for nature. They are committed to fostering effective action, interest and wonder in the natural world, across generations, borders, languages and cultures while also equipping, enabling and empowering conservationist at all career stages and from all background.
